Blade TV Recap

Episode 5
Wednesday July 26
We of course start out with the recap, and then see the Doctor that Blade suspected was involved with Van Scriver kill himself when Blade broke into his clinic. We also see Krista step into a pool of blood. Evidentially, it is a way for her to connect with Boon in order to find out where he is (a trick of the Lycan house). Van Scriver is worried that Boone will bring information about the testing to his enemies. Understandable, other vampires will be rather annoyed at Van Scriver if they found out that he was using vampires as guinea pigs.
The pool of blood seems to be doing the trick, as we see Krista's vision. She is driving down the road in a convertible in the middle of the day time. She sees her (dead) brother, and he tells her that Boone is here. She sees Boone walk out of a house, and then get a girl out of the trunk of his car. He mentions that they are going to Silvan Louisiana. After that, Krista wakes up in the pool of blood choking. The vampires help her, and then ask what she sees. She tells them where Boone is going.
We then see Blade at the funeral of the Doctor that offed himself (Dr. Vonner). He wonders if some of Vonner's patients knew what he was up to. Then he sees a pregnant woman...not surprising at a fertility doctors funeral, but when Blade uses his heat vision glasses, he sees that they baby inside the woman is cold...vampire cold.
Chase calls Van Scriver and tells him what Krista saw, and Van Scriver tells Chase that Silvan is the stronghold (or weakhold) of a small exiled vampire group, the house Armaya, which happens to be the house that Van Scriver does his experiments on. Van Scriver is obviously rather concerned that Boone will give information to the head of House Armaya, so he sends Chase and Krista to kill him.
We then see that Krista is sitting by the blood pool injecting herself with some of Blades serum. The Lycan walks in and tells her that before her, the longest one of the Lycan rituals took was 27 minutes, but it took 5 hours for her. He said that it was because she was resisting. Either she didn't want Boone dead, or she was rejecting to the world of death that Van Scriver and Chase offered her. Krista then made up some absurd story about her having a relationship with Boone so she didn't want him dead. Of course her defense was marred by the fact that she dropped one of her viles of serum which the Lycan later found. However, the Lycan doesn't say anything. Interestingly when Chase comes in to get Krista, she makes fun of the Lycan saying that he used to be such a vampire (before he got all new agey). When he claimed that he still was, she just scoffed at him. Though the look on his face when he found the serum was interesting.
We now see Blade tracking down the pregnant woman. It turns out her name is Vanessa Sims. She is single with no boyfriend...and suddenly has a lot of extra income. Blade figures the vampires have to be paying her to carry a vampire child, yet before he can pick her up, a drug dealer gets in his way delaying him enough that the vampires have a chance to pick her up first.
We now see Boone at the house Armaya. He is talking like the arrogant looser that he is, yet rather than killing him the underlings are intrigued. I guess they figure no one can be that arrogant if they can't back it up. Of course the fact that they are sick of being exiled, and are desperate to strike back at Van Scriver helps as well. But before they are able to make a deal, Chase and Krista come in and go on a killing spree.
Krista corners Boone, and they argue for a bit about how Van Scriver betrayed him. When Boone realizes that Krista is worried about the hostage, he rips her throat open and throws her at Krista. Ouch. Krista's blood lust takes over, and she is distracted. Boone runs away and hides in a restroom with an Armayan. When Chase catches up, she shoots up the restroom, and kills the Armayan through the door...and thinks that she killed Boone. Her and Krista then leave, and report back to Van Scriver.
Krista goes back to Blade, and takes a crap load of the serum. She is a bit freaked that her blood lust resurfaced, and that she feels jealous of other vampires. She is worried that she will not be able to escape her blood lust.
We now see a cop (Agent Collins) who has been investigating the strange and gruesome killings that Boone has been doing. He is in the hospital of the girl who Boone had tossed at Krista at the Armaya house. He throat was ripped out, but she was still alive. The doctor said that she said that some girl had saved her before she lost consciousness (though speaking with your throat torn up is quite a feat). Collins then held a picture of a vampire up in front of the girl, and she started to freak out...confirming his suspicion that vampires are involved.
Van Scriver gives a report on the progress of the vaccine to a young pureblood named Charlotte. She doesn't seem to trust him and is worried about how the other houses will respond if they find that Van Scriver has been testing it on vampires of the house Armaya. They may be exiled, but they do have their sympathizers.
Krista in hoping to find a way to get to the vaccine, breaks into Van Scriver's office and steals blueprints to the underground tunnels in the mansion. It seems quite stupid to keep blueprints to a secure facility in an unlocked office, but hey they are historical so I guess that makes it OK. At the same time, Blade arrives in Berlin where his contacts have told him where Vanessa (the pregnant girl) is staying.
Chase, who is guarding the girl, walks up telling her that everything is fine (and mocks her a bit). Blade kills a few vampires, and places an explosive charge on a gas line. He frees Vanessa, and charges through the safe house, killing vampires. Chase tries to chase him down, but he gets outside into the sunlight before she catches him. As she yells in frustration, Blades bomb goes off destroying the entire safe house.
As Krista breaks into the lab where the vaccine is kept, Charlotte tells her assistant that she doesn't trust Van Scriver. She wants a full investigation done into his activities, and into the activities of everyone he has turned.
Krista succeeds in stealing some of the vaccine, but when she gets back into the tunnel, Van Scriver confronts her. He found the torn page in the plans to the building, and figured out what she was doing. Though, he of course thought she wanted the vaccine for herself, rather than wanting to give it to Blade. He tells her that the vaccine doesn't really work. Even in the cases where it seems to give a vampire day walker abilities, it kills them in a few days. He then tells Krista that she can really join with him, or she can die. She chooses to join with him.
The episodes keep getting better. While we left the asher storyline behind, we have gotten into some more interesting conflict. I guess it figures that the house Armaya would be rather pissed at finding out that their vampires were being used in tests like that. Though, Van Scriver's own house would be rather pissed to find that the vaccine doesn't really work ...though he claims in will help to make his house stronger. Perhaps, he is planning on giving it to other houses, so that they all die out.
One thing that did bother me is the stupidity of the 'bad guys.' It is one thing to have a hero that can outsmart her enemies, but it is another to have them act stupidly. Keeping blueprints to your secure lab in your office is just dumb ...particularly when you have one of the blueprints hanging on your wall. Also, the carelessness in not being sure that Boone really was dead. I guess it helps move certain plot points forward, but it is a bit lazy.
Overall though, I really enjoyed the episode. The mystery of what exactly Van Scriver is doing is very captivating...and there are plenty of great action sequences as well. I really an eager for the next episode.
