Blade TV Recap

Episode 2
Wednesday July 5
his episode focuses both on Krista's struggle to find herself as a vampire and as a ally of Blade. It also shows the three way battle between Blade, the Vampires, and a group called the Ashers. They are a new type of drug dealer that sells the ash of vampires. This ash gives humans the ability of a vampire for a short period of time...but it also gives them the thirst for blood.
The episode starts out showing a man transporting a group of Vampires that are evidentially being used for testing by Van Scriver in an effort to perfect his "daywalker" vaccine. Unfortunately, one of those vampires is the cop that Krista bit, and he manages to escape. While we don't really learn much about him in this episode, he does go on a bit of a killing spree. It is likely that he will cause problems in future episodes.
We also learn a bit more about Van Scriver's vaccine...but learn that there is even more that we don't know. Van Scriver says that even Fritz, the first successful test subject doesn't even really understand what his behind the vaccine. There seems to be some reason that Van Scriver doesn't wish to give the vaccine to others. Throughout the episode Van Scriver and Fritz disagree on the risks that should be taken. Van Scriver is very worried about Blade taking Fritz captive, while Fritz is sure that he can eliminate Blade.
A big wig vampire comes to visit Van Scriver, and while he seems a bit unsure about the turning of Krista, he is very pleased with the progress on the vaccine. He watches some tests that show that Fritz is immune to the things that normally kill vampires, and then leaves. On his way back he stops at a sort of restaurant for vampires and picks out a human to eat. However, when he is inside, an Asher sets up an ambush for him and kills him on the way out. We then find that the Asher is a big time dealer named Cain. Cain takes the ash back to his hideout where it can be split up into hits to be sold.
Both Blade and the vampires are working on finding a way to bring down the ashers. Krista is on a strike force led by the vampire Chase, that is tasked with taking out the ashers (even though Chase doesn't quite trust Krista). However, when they get there, the ashers have fled leaving behind only one human tied up. When one of the vampires goes to remove the gag of the human, Krista yells no, and pushes Chase to the ground, right as the human explodes.
Around this time both Blade and Fritz show up, and start fighting. Blade gets the upper hand, and Chase becomes concerned that he will take Fritz alive. Chase holds of Blade with a machine gun and tells Krista to kill Fritz to keep him from Blade. Krista complies, but is knocked onto a wooden stake and injured. Chase then saves Krista, showing that she does trust Krista a little more at this point, and brings her back to the Vampire hideout (and then looks a bit jealous when Van Scriver stands worriedly over Krista's "hospital" bed)...while Blade goes back to his own place and picks the bullets out of his body.
We then cut to a final scene showing the cop from the beginning of the episode killing a police officer in Kansas.
Wow, this was quite an episode. I really loved the three way battle between Blade, the Vampires, and the Ashers. I think the three way battle adds quite a bit of depth to the story. Rather than a simply good versus evil, you have a bunch of people fighting each other for their own reasons.
I also really enjoyed the dynamic between Chase and Krista. Chase doesn't quite trust Krista, and clearly resents her. However, she comes to respect her over the course of the episode, particularly during the final battle. I also thought that the actors really fell into their roles a bit more during this episode.
It will be interesting to see what the vampires do now that their main test subject has been killed. Van Scriver seems to have implied that there is more to the serum/vaccine than has been revealed so far. Perhaps it doesn't work on all vampires. We do know that at least a thousand were killed in the testing of the vaccine...perhaps it only works for some. It is something that we will have to see developed over the next few episodes.
I also wonder what will become of the cop over the next few episodes. He is likely going to be pissed at Van Scriver for turning him into a lab rat, and at Krista for taking what he thought of as his position in the Van Scriver household...however it seems that he would not really be in a position to strike back.
I hope the ratings hold up for Blade, since I think it really has potential to be quite a show.
